More rain expected

LAHORE - There is no let up in monsoon rainfall. The Met office has predicted further rain at isolated places over Khyber PK, north Punjab and Kashmir during the next 24 hours while scattered thunderstorm has also been forecast for Gilgit Baltistan and north Balochis-tan. A fresh westerly wave is moving across northwest Afghanistan and adjoining areas while a southwest monsoon current from Arabian Sea is penetrating into the sub-mountain areas of the Punjab and Kashmir upto 3,000 feet. During the night between Sunday and Monday, heavy thunderstorm rain lashed the City causing 59 mm rain in Lahore, Gujranwala, Islamabad, Dhamial, Murree and their adjoining areas also received heavy rain. As a result of the rain, low-lying areas in the provincial metropolis were inundated. The fresh spell of rain has added misery to the people as rainwater of the last rain is still stagnant and there is no arrangement to drain out the water from the localities wherein the drains were either encroached or got filled with sand and clay. With the rain, the sewerage system of the City has also gone unserviceable. The rain and sewerage water is causing pollution and environmental hazards.
