LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif yesterday said that potable water was a right of every citizen.
He said the Punjab government was spending billions of rupees under Khadim-e-Punjab Saaf Pani Programme and high standard of this programme would be ensured.
The Chief Minister expressed these remarks while presiding over a meeting to review various matters of Saaf Pani Programme.
The meeting decided to set up separate Saaf Pani Companies for south and north Punjab under Khadim-e-Punjab Saaf Pani Programme.
Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said that Saaf Pani project was of basic importance for healthy life.
He said that with the establishment of separate Saaf Pani Companies in north and south Punjab, Khadim-e-Punjab Saaf Pani Programme would be implemented effectively and speedily. He said timely uthlization of resources of billions of rupees would be ensured which would help provide continuous supply of clean drinking water to the citizens. He said that access to clean drinking water was right of the people and no effort be spared for this purpose.

Satisfied over efforts for
recovery of missing children
Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday presiding over a meeting of steering committee on missing children, expressed satisfaction over efforts for the recovery or return of missing children to their homes.
He said that measures taken for the recovery or return of missing children to their homes were commendable and it was due to prompt and effective steps taken by the Punjab government.
Shehbaz Sharif directed that Prosecution department should actively perform its duties for early disposal of cases under hearing in courts and legislation should be made for declaring crime against children a non-bailable offence. He said that a plan should be evolved for enrolment of beggar children and effective steps should be taken for welfare and rehabilitation of such children.
The Chief Minister said that beggary was not destiny of children and they should be made useful citizens. He said that an effective strategy be evolved for elimination of beggary.
The meeting was informed that 18 children had been returned to their homes or being recovered during last six days.
Provincial Minister for Law Rana Sanaullah, Special Assistant Rana Maqbool Ahmed, Jahangir Khanzada MPA, Chief Secretary, Advocate General Punjab, Chairperson Child Protection and Welfare Bureau, Saba Sadiq MPA, Inspector General Police, Secretary Home, senior police officers besides officers concerned were present.
