One-dish law to be strictly implemented, says Shahbaz

LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister, Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that one dish law would be strictly implemented in marriage ceremonies as he has interests of the poor people at heart. He was talking to newsmen after Walima ceremony of the son of a leader of Pakistan People's Party Ch Ghulam Abbas in Sialkot on Tuesday. The Chief Minister said that there are millions of people in the province who cannot afford lavish expenditure on marriage ceremonies and have to mortgage their ancestral property for the marriage of their daughters and spend rest of their lives under heavy debt. He said that one dish law would be strictly implemented in the interest of the poor so that they could be saved from heavy expenditure. He said that Ch Ghulam Abbas has set a good example by abiding by this law for which he should be congratulated. Referring to the national situation and recent tension between India and Pakistan, the Chief Minister expressed the hope that Indian leadership would adopt a sensible attitude and would not indulge in any such act, which could jeopardize peace in South Asia. He said that Pakistan is a peace-loving country and wants harmony in the region; therefore, Indian government should also display wisdom and restraint on this issue. He said that Pakistan is taking effective measure against extremists and militants. He hoped that Pakistan and India would not go to war but if India tried to impose war on Pakistan, 16 crore people of the country would stand shoulder to shoulder with armed forces and give a befitting reply to the Indian aggression. He said that the whole nation is united under the circumstances. PML leader and Member National Assembly Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Members Provincial Assembly Ch Akhlaque Ahmad, Tahir Mehmood, Rana Muhammad Iqbal Harnah, former MPA Mansha Allah Butt, former MNA Iftikhar-ul-Hassan, Zahare Shah, District President PML-N Sialkot Adrees Ahmad Bajwa, Commissioner Gujranwala Division Khalid Masood Ch and RPO Gujranwala Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema were also present on the occasion. Rs180 million medicines being provided Punjab Minister for Population Welfare, Neelam Jabbar Ch has said that population welfare department is providing medicines for general ailments and medicines worth Rs180m to the general public, whereas, the department is also providing services to mother & child health treatment for miscellaneous diseases. While talking to various delegations at her office on Monday, the minister said that government was introducing executable reforms in social sector and Rs. 110 billion and 35 billion would be spent on education and health respectively, whereas, record amount of Rs. 160 billion has been reserved for developmental schemes. She said government had reserved Rs. 145 billion for the welfare of poor people, while Rs.1 billion has been reserved for the provision of homes to the shelter less people. She said that the provincial government has declared promotion of education as one of the top priorities of the government and had introduced Universal Education Programme under which every child of Punjab will go to school by 2010, whereas, Rs. 200 million had been reserved in the current fiscal year budget for the scholarship of needy students of professional educational institutions.
