LAHORE - The investigation into the case of Hamesh Khan, the main accused in the Bank of Punjab (BoP) scam of worth Rs 9 billion, is expected to be completed within next couple of weeks, sources privy to the Investigation Team disclosed on Thursday. Renowned legal experts, journalists and some NAB officials could also be booked due to their alleged involvement in getting money from the accused on the promise of getting court verdict in his favour. However, investigators revealed that accused of the case other than Hamesh would be questioned in the next phase as initially they were focusing only on Hamesh Khan. It is worth mentioning that Chief Justice of Pakistan while transferring the investigation to the combine investigation team comprising police and FIA officers had directed the team to also probe NAB officers who had not pursued the case honestly. Sheikh Afzal, who was arrested in Malaysia by Interpol and brought to Pakistan, confessed to have allegedly paid Rs 50 million to Law Minister Babar Awan, Rs 10 million to former advisor Shairfuddin Pirzada, Rs 20 million to former attorney general Malik Mohammad Qayyum and Rs 7.5 million to Ali Waseem, son of Waseem Sajjad, to get a court verdict in his favour. He also alleged Irfan Qadir of taking one million as well. An investigator seeking anonymity said "Investigation process in white collar crime is very lengthy specially when it deals with accounts matters. He says in US sometimes it takes four to six years to be finalised and we are on it and we have not even taken rest on Eid days". He said hopefully it would be finalised within coming couple of weeks. To a question he said accused was not on physical remand but on a judicial remand and he could be jailed after submission of challan in the court. It is pertinent to mention here that the chief justice had said in his comments that Hamesh Khan would get fair trial as he respected the law of the country and joined the investigations. But as per sources closed to Hamesh Khan, he was being treated inhumanly in Camp jail, Lahore.
