Complete shutterdown in Walled City

LAHORE - Transporters, traders and shopkeepers observed complete strike here in the Walled City on Saturday to mourn the killing of underworld don Tipu Truckanwala, who was gunned down over old enmity. The traders and shopkeepers shuttered their shops situated at Circular Road and in Shah Alam Market while the goods transporters also observed complete strike to mourn the death of Truckanwala. The funeral prayer of Airf Ameer alias Tipu Truckanwala will be offered on Sunday (today) evening when some close relatives of the deceased will arrive from abroad, police officials said. The situation remained quite intense in the entire locality on Saturday while a good number of people of area visited the residence of the deceased to express sorrow and grief over his death. Heavy police contingents were also deployed in Gwalmandi area to keep the things under control. On the other hand, the police have begun probe into the murder of Tipu Truckanwala and Section 302 has been added in the FIR. The police sources said that the investigators had also got record of the hardened criminals and were investigating keeping in view various aspects of the killing. It is important to note here that Arif Ameer alias Tipu Truckanwala succumbed to bullet wounds at Mayo Hospital on Friday, two days after he was ambushed by gunmen in the parking lot of the Allama Iqbal International Airport. He was rushed to the Mayo Hospital where he died later. The gunmen opened indiscriminate fire on the vehicle of Tipu Truckanwala when he along with his family members was leaving for his residence from the airport on Wednesday night. He had arrived from Dubai when gunmen ambushed his vehicle. The police arrested the accused identified as Khurrum Ijaz who had opened firing at Tipu. The accused later confessed to the police investigators that he had opened fire at Tipu to take revenge of the murder of his brother Yasir, who was gunned down some four years ago. The police also registered the case against the accused and his unidentified accomplices. Caught red-handed Special Food Squad, under the supervision of District Officer Food Dr Masood Ashraf, on Saturday caught Bashir Ahmed and his employee Fayyaz Ahmed red-handed while preparing cakes with foul eggs at a factory near Bohar Wala Chowk. The squad recovered 400 cakes, 200 pastry and 350 foul eggs from the factory premises. The squad took samples of food items and the same were sent to laboratory for analysis.
