Police kill killer in ‘encounter’


LAHORE – City police on Saturday shot dead an accused, who allegedly killed a young girl by setting her on fire after she refused to marry him, during an ‘encounter’ which took place in the Kahna area.
However, sources claimed that the police staged an encounter after the accused, later identified as Babar, confessed to the police during interrogation that he had set Maafia Bibi,11, on fire because she rejected his marriage proposal. The accused also told the investigators that he had kidnapped the girl, took her to a house and later set her on fire.
According to police version, a police team conducted a raid at a house to arrest the accused but he opened fire on the police, triggering an armed encounter. As a result, Babar was killed while his accomplice managed to flee the crime scene.
Maafia was found burnt to death from a drain a couple of days ago. Her father, Muhammad Waris, told the police that one Babar wanted to tie his knot with his elder daughter and suspected that the accused had kidnapped Maafia because the family rejected his marriage proposal. The police have removed the body to the morgue for autopsy and are investigating.
FOUND MURDERED: A 40-year-old man was found shot dead lying in his car, parked near Eden Canal Villas in the Chuhng Police precincts on early Saturday.
Police investigators said that the man, yet to be identified, was lying shot dead on the rear seat of the Honda Civic car (LXO-8522) as they reached the spot. Some passers-by spotted the dead body and contacted the police by phone. The police have removed the body to the morgue for autopsy and are investigating.
ELECTROCUTED: A 22-year-old man was electrocuted as he touched an electric wire when he taking a bath at his residence in the Shahdra Town police area. The deceased, identified as Imran, was said to the resident of Imamia Colony.
