EPTB evacuates 540 kanals land in DHA

LAHORE - Evacuee Property Trust Board (EPTB) Chairman, Asif Hashmi said that he has not allowed any illegal construction on Boards property since he took over the charge of the Board and despite the pressure from different quarters, never facilitated few officials of the federal government to get their illegitimate jobs done. He expressed these views while talking to The Nation forum on Monday. Asif said the Board was guarding one lakh and 25 thousand acres of land and 95 thousand units of the evacuee property. He said the Board under his chairmanship, has accomplished a number of jobs regarding the Sikh Gurdawaras that were highly appreciated by the Sikh community who visit them every year. He said Indian intelligence agency RAWs efforts to give a bad name to Pakistan in the eyes of Sikh community were failed due to the tremendous jobs of the Board on the Sikhs property. He declined to comment on the performance of three former chiefs of the Board, who belonged to the army service. He said that the EPTB has 900 shrines and temples in its service, while 925 employees were working in the Board, adding that the Board would raise the rent of its building very soon. Asif Hashmi said there was one position for secretary in the Board and he did not appoint two secretaries on one seat but the federal government appointed the second secretary, adding only the federal government could make it right by calling the second secretary. He said that Board passed the budget of the organisation and then sent it to the federal government. He said that the federal secretary was cutting the land of the Board and was making it non-trust property, which he stopped, adding thats why the federal secretary made an issue of the budget. EPTB Chairman said that he asked the Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to make arrangements for checking affairs of the Board since he took over the charge of the Board. He said the process of getting the land of the Board from illegal occupants was going on and in this regard EPTB under his chairmanship got released 540 kanals of land from illegal residents that fall in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and handed it over to the Authority and in return 10 commercial plots for the Board. Asif Hashmi said that Boards land at Baybay Nanki, Bedian Road where Baba Guru Nananks sister Gurdawara was situated also in the possession of the illegal occupants and he wanted to build a hospital and school there but the neighbouring country was opposing his idea.
