Corrupt officials list being prepared

LAHORE - Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) is busy in preparing lists of the corrupt officers performing in various provincial departments and arrests would start within next couple of days, spokesman of ACE claimed on Friday. He said DG ACE Tariq Saleem Dogar was very much committed to eliminate corruption from the province. He informed that ACE has recovered Rs 480.15 million that included net cash, indirect and compromised recovery, which reflected the first three months performance of the department. In the first three months report, ACE registered 669 cases, initiated 3928 inquiries and arrested 401 officials. Police remained on top as usual by getting 245 cases registered against its officials, Revenue department stood second with 181 cases and education on number three with registration of 42 cases. 65-year-old tortured to death A 65-year-old man who came from Bahawalpur to attend a marriage ceremony was allegedly tortured to death by a youth in Shahdara on Friday. The deceased identified as Muhammad Shabbir came to Lahore to attend the marriage ceremony of his niece in Elahi Park. He was celebrating the ceremony when a young motorcyclist, residing in the same area, scuffled with him for throwing drinking water on him. According to the police, the youth later identified as Asif Ali allegedly tortured the old man that caused his instant death. Relatives of the deceased immediately caught the youth and handed him over to the police for legal action. After recording statements of the witnesses, the police sent the dead body to the city morgue for autopsy and registered a case against the alleged 'killer on the complaint of victims son Habib Ali.
