NAB on Rapid ride

LAHORE - The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has started inquiry into alleged fraud in Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS), sources  said on Monday.
They added the NAB officials had sought record of the BRTS from departments concerned for data  verification. They said the NAB had also demanded the same record in February but they paid no heed and record was not provided to the bureau.
The Punjab government had started the project from Gaju Matta to Shahdara with estimated cost of Rs32 billion.
Later, the Punjab government issued different figures about its cost -  Rs32 billion, Rs24 billion and  Rs29.80b respectively.
The deadline for the completion of two packages was set October. Now when the NAB has demanded record of the project, initially letters have been sent to LDA director general, transport secretary and C&W secretary, said a NAB senior official.
He said it was routine matter and it was called contract evaluation but in broader sense it was also called an inquiry. The officer said after examination of the documents it would be established that whether any irregularity was committed in award of contracts or not. If the PPRA rules were followed then the NAB would not take any action, the official siad.
