CM surprises cops

LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif yesterday paid a surprise visit to the route of Lahore Orange Line Metro Train without any protocol.
He reviewed the pace of construction activities on the project from Dera Gujran to Samanabad and presided over a meeting at the site office near University of Engineering and Technology (UET) in which he was briefed about the progress of civil work on Package-I of the project.
The CM expressed his satisfaction over the pace of civil work of metro train project and issued necessary instructions to senior authorities of concerned institutions and contractors.
Shehbaz Sharif inspected construction activities at place to place. Talking to the public on the occasion, he said Lahore Orange Line Metro Train project will provide international standard transport facilities to the common man and it is a unique project of the country which will result in latest travelling facilities to the citizens.
The project will be completed within two years, Shahbaz said, adding that no compromise will be made on the quality of construction work.
He directed Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) to evolve best traffic management plan on the route of the project and implement the plan effectively.
The chief minister felicitated the workers on the Orange Line on Eid Milad-un-Nabi and said that it is the teaching of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) to work hard.
He inspected the route of Package-II of the project. Addressing the meeting at the site office, the chief minister expressed his pleasure that construction work is being completed with high standard.
Shehbaz Sharif directed the contractors that there should be same uniform of the labourers as this project will introduce a new work culture.
The CM, however, expressed his displeasure over the fact that sub-camp of Rescue-1122 has not been set up on the route and ordered the authorities concerned to take immediate measures in this regard.
Later on, the CM visited the Ghalib Market Police Station and reviewed the situation there. He also visited the modern operation room set up in the office of SP Model Town in Gulberg.
This operation room has been set up under digital and smart policing system and there is complete computerised data of Model Town Division.
The CM reached the office of SP Model Town without prior intimation and inspected the modern operation room. He also talked to the officials present there.
Speaking on the occasion, Shahbaz Sharif said that crimes are controllable while performance of police could be improved through use of modern technology. He said that police will have to benefit from modern information technology for coming up to the expectations of the masses.
