LAHORE - Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar called on Governor Latif Khosa on Friday and urged the need for developing friendly relations between India and Pakistan.
She lamented that the two neighbours were not having the sort of relations they should have developed over the years to raise standard of living of the people in the two countries.
“It seems I am born today,” she said while referring to the famous saying in Punjabi which reads that “He who has not seen Lahore is not yet born.” Appreciating the rich culture and natural beauty of Lahore, she said: “You people have brought heaven on the earth.”
She said the two countries should resolve their differences through dialogue to attain a respectable status in the world. Mrs Meira expressed the hope that her visit would pave the way for strengthening bilateral relations. She said there was broader consensus in India to develop friendly relations with Pakistan
 While expressing her good wishes for progress and well-being of  Pakistan and its people, Speaker Lok Sabha, Meira Kumar, Friday said that parliamentary exchanges will bring the people of both the countries closer together.  
The Indian Lok Sabha Speaker, who is on an official visit to Pakistan heading a 17-member parliamentary delegation, called on Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Muhammd Iqbal in his chambers on Friday afternoon.  
Talking to the Speaker, Ms Kumar said that Pakistan and India should understand their problems and work jointly for their solution. She was of the view that frequent contacts between parliamentarians from both sides could help improve relations between the two neighbors.
