Punjab police op: 250 arrested, released

LAHORE - Police on Friday said that more than 250 ‘suspected persons’ have been detained during the search operation launched in Iqbal Town police division.
A Lahore police spokesman said that the operation was launched under the supervision of SP Iqbal Town Syed Touseef Haider in which the police searched inns, hotels, public places, residences and godowns. During the checking, at least 257 suspected persons were detained, the police spokesman said, but did not mention further details.  However, police sources claimed that the search operation was proved as a futile exercise as no important arrest was made.
The sources further said that the police only detained beggars, destitute, and homeless people as they failed to provide identify papers during the so-called search operations. They also said that the police released most of the detainees from the police stations after accepting bribe from the poor people. The late night police raids in the residential localities are irritated the people, who were sleeping when the police reached for door-to-door search.  In the wake of recent terror attacks, the police have launched search operations in Lahore to check the movement of suspected persons.
