Lahore lawyers on strike against Karachi kidnapping

LAHORE - Lawyers observed strike to condemn the abduction of son of Sindh High Court Chief Justice, demanding the government secure his release.

The Lahore strike is part of a countrywide protest by lawyers on the call of Pakistan Bar Council and Punjab Bar Council. The lawyers showed serious concerns over poor security arrangements of the judges, their families and fellow lawyers in the country. They said they would announce another line of action if Owais Shah, the son of Sindh CJ Sajjad Ali Shah, was not recovered immediately.

The judges at the lower judiciary also supported the cause of the strike. Majority of them did not sit in the courtrooms rather they stayed at their chambers.

The lawyers’ attendance remained thin at all courts including Lahore High Court, district courts, sessions and civil courts, banking and NAB courts and Anti-Terrorism Courts.

Due to the strike, the litigants suffered huge problems. Thousands of cases were adjourned for other days.

Five days ago, Awais Ali Shah was kidnapped from Mall of Clifton in Karachi.
