PML-Q launches election drive amid show of ‘electables’

LAHORE - The PML-Q on Sunday formally launched its election campaign from Lahore in the presence senior party leaders including over 30 electables from across Punjab who would be awarded party tickets.
The most significant aspect of Sunday’s PML gathering was the presence of over 30 electables from across Punjab besides the senior leadership. This show of potential candidates was meant to give a message to the opponents that PML-Q was still a force to reckon with.
Party President Senator Ch Shoat Hussain, senior central leader and PML Punjab President Ch Parvez Elahi, Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Syed, Basharat Raja and Moonis Elahi formally started off the poll campaign by addressing a public meeting at PML House here.
Addressing a gathering of enthusiastic candidates who have applied for party tickets and later talking to the media, the PML leaders said that their party will give a very big surprise to the opponents in the next general elections.
Moonis Elahi Ch Zaheeruddin Khan, Tariq Bashir Cheema, Syed Dilawar Abbas, Anwar Bhinder, Sardar Nasrullah Khan Dreshak, Sajid Chatha, Rana Zahid Tauseef, Ashiq Gopang, Riaz Asghar Chaudhry, Sardar Tufail, Sardar Talib Nakai, Nauman Langrial, Mehdi Hassan Bhatti, Ahmad Yar Heraj, Raza Hayat Heraj, Dr Azeemuddin Lakhvi, Akram Masih Gill, Mian Munir Ahmad, Yousuf Ahad Malik and other leaders were also among those present.
Speaking on the occasion, Ch Shujaat alleged that that N-League had never respected the democratic mandate. He said people will vote on the basis of past performance of political parties which had been in power, and media should also play its role in this regard.
He said all the four personalities for the slot of caretaker prime minister were men of integrity but Almighty Allah had given the opportunity to Mir Hazar Khan Khoso; and hopefully, he will render the best services like his performance in the past.
Ch Parvez Elahi said that a peculiar sentimental atmosphere affected PML performance in 2008 elections, but despite this, the party candidates had secured the maximum votes in the Punjab compared to other parties.
“Our candidates will go to the voters with their heads up because of glorious services rendered to the people in the past”, he said, adding that they would also tell the electorate that present Punjab government had left behind a deficit of Rs 500 billion and dumped the entire Punjab budget in flop projects. Parvez Elahi pointed out that just one project of service to the people, the rescue 1122, had helped in saving the lives of 1.4 million citizens so far.
PML Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Syed said that the party had formally launched its election campaign from Lahore from today. He said what other parties were promising to do in their election manifestoes, the PML had done all that earlier.
Senior party leader Muhammad Basharat Raja said that he saluted those colleagues who remained steadfast for five years despite threats, luring, false cases and vindictive activities of the Punjab Government and kept the party flag flying high in the face of adverse circumstances.
