Dengue scores triple century

OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE After a day-off on Sunday, the ruthless dengue came back with a whirl, killing five more people in the City on Monday. With the new deaths, the deadly virus has completed it triple century. The total tally now stands at 303. Besides putting to sword five more in a day, the dengue virus also forced hundreds more in Lahore to land in hospitals for preliminary tests. As many as 244 new cases were confirmed on Monday, taking the overall patients tally to 30,060. Muhammad Ashraf (85), a resident of Township, Muhammad Khalid (34) of Kot Lakhpat, Muhammad Rizwan (22) of Kasur and Muhammad Umar (24) of Sheikhupra lost their battle of life at Jinnah Hospital. Ibrar Ahmed (22) of Badami Bagh died at Mayo Hospital. Out of 244 new dengue cases, 29 were tested positive at Mayo Hospital, 28 at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, 23 at Services Hospital, 21 at Institute of Public Health, 20 at Childrens Hospital, 14 at Sheikh Zayed Hospital, 13 at Jinnah Hospital and 12 at Lahore General Hospital while the remaining were reported from other public sector hospitals and private healthcare centres in the City. According to the Health Department figures, eight dengue patients lost their lives in the province during the last 24 hours and out of these six were from Lahore. Hence, the total number of deaths reached to 276 in Punjab including 244 in Lahore. As many as 266 new cases were reported in the Punjab and out of these 201 from Lahore. As such the total number of dengue patients reached 18,950 in the province including 16,094 from Lahore. So far 18,669 dengue patients have been cured and discharged from the hospitals from across the province including 15,887 from Lahore. At present 1,168 dengue patients are under treatment in different hospitals of Punjab and out of these 913 are in Lahore. As many as 216 dengue patients were cured and discharged from various hospitals of Lahore during the last 24 hours. Out of these, 89 patients were discharged from Mayo Hospital, 51 from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, 32 from Jinnah Hospital, 23 from Services Hospital, 12 from Lahore General Hospital, 07 from Government Said Mitha Hosptial and 02 from Kot Khawaja Saeed Hospital.
