LAHORE - A delegation of students from South Waziristan Friday visited the Government College University and met with Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khaleequr Rahman.
The delegation, comprising 97 students and 25 faculty members of Cadet College Spinkai (CCS), visited the university’s Sports Complex, Postgraduate Library, Naqoosh Museum, Nazir Ahmed Music Society and various academic departments.
The students were also shown the original Nobel Prize Certificate received by eminent Old Ravian Prof Dr Abdus Salam from King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden on December 10, 1979 for his contribution in the field of Physics. The delegation also visited GCU Allama Iqbal Hostel and witnessed the room where the Poet of East had spent several years of his student life.
Addressing the students, Vice Chancellor Prof Rahman said: “We are all Pakistanis and we have to serve our motherland without considering our castes, sects and personal interests. We should stand united to counter conspiracies of our enemies against our motherland and to represent Pakistan at the world level.”
He also told the students that both Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Army Chief General Raheel Sharif had studied from GCU, adding that most of the scientists who carried out nuclear tests and designed missile system also belonged to this institution. The delegation lauded the facilities being given to students at GCU, saying GCU had the most beautiful campus in the country.
