LAHORE - Adviser to Chief Minister Punjab on Health Kh Salman Rafiq has directed teaching hospitals to implement guidelines circulated by Dengue Experts Advisory Group (DEAG) and follow the protocol for case management.
Chairing a meeting of administrative doctors of teaching hospitals to review arrangements according to the TORs and SOPs, he directed posting trained doctors and staff at Dengue Wards and High Dependency Units.
Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Najam Ahmad Shah, DCO Lahore Muhammad Usman, Vice Chancellor KEMU and Chairman DEAG Prof Faisal Masood, VC Fatima Jinnah Medical University Prof Sardar Fakhar Imam, Dr Somia Iqtidar, Principal SIMS Prof Hamid Mehmood Butt, Principal PGMI Prof Ghias-un-Nabi Tayyab and medical superintendents of Mayo Hospital, Jinnah Hospital, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Services Hospital, Mian Munshi Hospital, Said Mitha Hospital, Children’s Hospital, Kot Khawaja Saeed Hospital, Nawaz Sharif Hospital Yakki Gate, Lady Willingdon Hospital and Lady Aitchison Hospital attended the meeting.
Kh Salman Rafiq directed the medical superintendents to ensure arrangements according to standing operating procedures issued by DEAG. He said that for this purpose a check list would also be maintained. He directed appointing a focal person for every hospital which would be available round the clock. Senior Registrar level clinician should also be available in dengue ward for patients, he said.
Secretary SH&ME directed the medical superintendents to furnish a certificate to the department regarding arrangement and implementation on TORs.
DCO Lahore said that surveillance situation in DHA has improved after intervention of city district government. He said that private hospitals from where dengue patients were being reported have been attached with teaching hospital for guidance and technical assistance.
Prof Faisal Masood directed the medical superintendents to ensure filling prescribed performa prepared for the dengue patients. He said that all the data and correct information of probable and confirmed dengue patients was essential for case -response which would be helpful to curtail the disease. He said that dedicated dengue counters, wards and high dependency units would be established at hospitals.
