LAHORE - Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said the prime responsibility of the Punjab government is to provide security to the lives and properties of the masses, and the government is all set to facilitate the Punjab Police for the aforesaid purpose.
He expressed these views while inaugurating the Police School of Information and Analysis on Wednesday at Chung. Mr Ferdinand Jenrich, 2nd Secretary Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, and Principal Advisor Gender Responsive Policing (GRP) Project GIZ Dr Khola Iram, were also present on this occasion.
Chief guest Shahbaz Sharif visited the campus and appreciated the initiative and efforts of the Punjab Police in taking lead by catering emerging needs of capacity building of police personnel in the field of information gathering and analysis of crimes.
He said that for effective management of crimes, it is critical to acquire knowledge of new areas of police interventions and equip the police with modern policing techniques.  He also acknowledged the need to develop human capital and make investment in adequate provision of infrastructure to enable the police to meet its obligation of ensuring security and peace adequately.
He commended the support extended by the government of Germany to the Punjab Police in the field of gender responsive policing by focusing on provision of specialised skills trainings, improving training facilities, formulation of police training policy, development of training modules and establishment of Ladies Complaint Units inside regular male dominated police stations.
The Police School has been established by Gender Responsive Policing Project (GRP), a joint venture of GIZ (an implementing agency for the Government of Germany) and National Police Bureau funded by the Foreign Office of Germany.
 The purpose of Police School of Information and Analysis is to provide excellent trainings on police investigation and intelligence by using latest training techniques on international standards for both men and women police officers of different ranks under the expertise of highly-skilled and professional trainers. The Police School of Information and Analysis will offer highly sophisticated class rooms equipped with up-to-date teaching facilities, a well equipped Forensic Lab with hi-tech bugging devices along with the latest gadgets for DNA matching, finger prints lifting and collection of evidences from crime scenes, state-of-the-art Computer Lab, library and mess facilities for the trainees and teachers.
Mr Ferdinand Jenrich said that Police School of Information and Analysis is a depiction of the successful co-operation of the National Police Bureau and the German Agency for International Cooperation at provincial level.
He said that German government values its cooperation with the government of Pakistan to promote good governance and we would like to see this partnership growing with visible outcomes for greater impact on the lives of women, men, girls and boys alike. He said that it is heartening to see that Gender Responsive Policing project along with Police is taking strategic steps for promoting gender sensitive policing practices focusing on core policing issues like investigation, interrogation and information gathering.
Additional IG Training, Punjab Naseem-uz-Zaman thanked the CM for his presence and unflinching support and interest to improve the standards of policing to better serve the public. He also appreciated the assistance of the German government extended to the Punjab police in enhancing the standards of policing.
 He said that their valuable contribution has paved a way for the Punjab Police to establish and operationalise the School of Information and Analysis. He also commended the senior police officers of Punjab for this strategic initiative based on the vision of the honorable Chief Minister to have a state of the art training institute in Lahore.
Tariq Rustam Chuhan, Commandant, Police School of Information & Analysis presented the mission statement of Police School of Information & Analysis” to equip the men and women officers of Punjab police with necessary skills, to gather, analyze and process relevant information that can be utilised by the operational police against crimes and criminals ensuring citizen security”. He shared that PSIA has already conducted 16 training courses and about 450 police officers (both men & women) have been trained so far on different aspects of information gathering and analysis.
Later, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the Yadgar-e- Shuhada at Police College Lahore and visited the Women Campus for specialized skills at Police College Lahore. The Commandant of the Police College Major (r) Mubashirullah gave the briefing to the CM about the facilities, training aids and courses offered by the college for both men and women police officers.
