Govt, marchers asked to resolve issues through talks

LAHORE - A conference of 25 religious parties belonging to different schools of thought have warned against the dangerous trends of sectarian and political riots rising from the prevailing political deadlock, and appealed to the govt, PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri and PTI chairman Imran Khan to resolve the issues peacefully through dialogue.
Through a joint communiqué issued after the meeting held under the aegis of Pakistan Ulema Council at a local hotel on Monday, the heads and representatives of these 25 religious parties also appealed to the PTI leadership to withdraw their resignations from the Parliament and hold back their calls for civil disobedience and confrontation with the govt. They also appealed to the govt to unearth the facts behind the Model Town tragedy and provide justice to the victim families.
The communiqué of the meeting chaired by PUC president Hafiz Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi and addressed by various religious leaders, warned against certain forces hatching the conspiracy of the country-wide sectarian and political violence to carry out the agenda of enemies. They added that it required all the political and religious forces to join hands for countering the anti-state agenda.
The communiqué appealed to both Imran Khan and Dr Tahirul Qadri to allow the women and children in their respective sit-ins to go home, so that they could be protected from the hardships of weather and other diseases prevailing in the area for the last many days.
The communiqué urged upon all the political and religious leaders to refrain from speaking derogatory words against rival leaders to promote the atmosphere of harmony.
Shia Ulema Council leader Kazim Raza Naqvi, Prof Abdur Rehman Ludhainvi, JUP leader Sardar Muhammad Khan Leghari, JUI-F leader Maulana Amjad Khan and others addressed the conference.
Meanwhile, different mashaikhs and custodians of various shrines joined hands to mediate among the PTI, PAT and govt to end the current deadlock and reach to a workable solution to the prevailing political turmoil.  Addressing a news conference at the Press Club here Monday, mashaikhs and religious leaders appealed to both the government and sit-in parties to show flexibility in their stances for the sake of national interests and security, solidarity and integrity in the country.
, and find a peaceful solution to the crisis to prevent the country from a situation like Iraq and Syria.
They warned the government and especially Dr Tahirul Qadri that various banned outfits and pro-Taliban elements had begun taking out rallies in support of the PML-N government which could turn the situation into a civil war. They said if this trend gained pace, then it could lead to sectarian riots and chaos in the country.
JUP president Masoom Hussain Naqvi said he would meet Dr Tahirul Qadri on Wednesday (tomorrow) to convince him for showing some flexibility and would also engage the government ministers on the next day to find a negotiated settlement to the problem.
The speakers also demanded the government to register FIR of the Model Town tragedy and punish the culprits.
Those who attended the event included International Mashaikh Council chairman Pir Munawwar Shah Jamaati, JUP-Niazi president Pir Masoom Hussain Naqvi, Sunni Ittehad Council general secretary Muhammad Ali Naqshbandi and others.
