JI welcomes ECP decision

LAHORE – The Jamaat-e Islami (JI) Central Shoora on Monday welcomed the Election Commission decisions for the enforcement of the articles 62 and 63 of the constitution about the upcoming elections and stressed for more concrete measures in this regard.
Terming the Benazir Income Support Program as a political bribe, the Shoora urged the Supreme Court to take notice of the matter. However, it proposed that the fund for the needy be renamed as Islamic Democratic Pakistan Fund.
The Shoora noted that President Zardari’s retaining presidential and party offices despite the Supreme Court’s verdict was a violation of the constitution and the country’s traditions. It called upon the ECP to take measures to ensure the impartiality of the Presidency in the upcoming elections. It called for a complete ban on the release of development funds by the federal and the provincial governments.
The JI central body discussed the current political situation and noted that international conspiracies against the country were at peak but the government was not interested to counter. The Shoora said that the rulers had done inestimable harm to the country due to their blind following of the US dictation besides their massive corruption and worst performance on all fronts. The country’s economy had been shattered, while industry, agriculture and trade had been ruined because of the energy crisis. Karachi, Balochistan and tribal areas were bleeding and the lawlessness was at peak.
