LHC seeks report about prisoners freed from Bagram

lahore - Lahore High Court Justice Khalid Mehmood Khan on Tuesday directed the Foreign Ministry to submit a report about the release of Pakistanis from Bagram Theatre Internment Camp, Afghanistan.
The petitioner’s counsel said that the ministry is using delaying tactics as no details of the six detainees have been unfolded so far even after lapse of one month of their release from Bagram jail. He further submitted there are still many Pakistanis in Bagram jail and the ministry should be directed to ensure their early release.  The state counsel, however, sought more time to obtain instructions from the ministry on the matter. Upon which, the court adjourned hearing until March 14.
Justice Project Pakistan, a non-profit law firm, had filed the suit seeking directions for the release and return of 25 Pakistani citizens detained at Bagram jail. The petitioner said that Pakistani citizens were detained at Bagram jail without any charge or trial since 2003.
Meanwhile, the LHC directed the Punjab government to submit a summary regarding judicial allowance to employees. As the proceedings started, a law officer appeared in the court and said that Acting AG Mustafa Ramday had meetings with authorities of law and finance departments as well as with the Punjab CM on the subject. He said Ramday was going abroad and would come back on March 3. He appealed to the court to adjourn hearing till his return.  CJ Umar Ata Bandial accepted his plea and adjourned further hearing until March 6, directing the Punjab govt to submit a detailed summary on the matter.
The lower courts employees had filed a suit against the Punjab government over non-provision of 50 percent increase in judicial allowance. The petitioners contended that the government was intentionally delaying implementation of 50 percent increase in the allowance of LHC employees.
