LAHORE – The Punjab Assembly witnessed chaos on the second consecutive day on Wednesday when the opposition again raised the issue of large scale deaths of heart patients after taking free medicine provided from Punjab Institute of Cardiology. The Opposition strongly protested and staged a walk out when the chair stopped Raja Riaz Ahmed from criticising the Leader of the House. While walking out from the House in protest, PPP legislator Munawar Ghaus pointed out quorum.
Law Minister Rana Sanaullah assured the House that the Parliamentary Secretary Health would give update on daily basis and Punjab Chief Minister would be in the House on the concluding day of debate on the PIC issue.
On a Point of Order, Raja Riaz Ahmed said that the CM should come to the House and inform the legislators about the prevailing situation. He said that all powers rested with the CM and it was his responsibility to tell the House about the truth. He said that the PML-N has made a stubborn person CM. He said that dengue virus killed over 800 people and now fake medicines were playing havoc with the lives of heart patients. He said that the CM was responsible for all ills and the government should suspend the proceedings and hold a debate on the PIC issue on Thursday (today). He said that the CM should inform the House that who was responsible for the killing of heart patients due to fake medicine. He said that No Confidence move could succeed against Shahbaz Sharif if the PML-N legislators cast their votes on the voice of their conscience.
Rana Sanaullah said that the treasury has no objection on holding debate on the issue after re-passing the bills sent back by Governor Punjab for review. He said that the government would implement the practicable proposals of the opposition. He said that the government would inform the House about the measures on daily basis.
On the insistence of Raja Riaz that the CM should be present in the House during debate, Rana Sanaullah said that Shahbaz Sharif would be there on the conclusion of debate on the PIC issue.
Saeed Akbar Nawani said that such an important issue should not be politicised and the government take the House into confidence about the present situation.
