OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE A delegation of the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association, led by chairman Javed A Kayani, met Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, here on Monday and discussed matters regarding supply and prices of sugar during Ramzan-ul-Mubarak. They assured him of smooth supply of sugar during Ramazan. Minister Food Ch Abdul Ghafoor, Chairman Price Control Committee MNA Bilal Yaseen, Additional Chief Secretary, administrative secretaries Food and Industry departments were present on this occasion. Talking to the delegation, the CM said supply of sugar to the masses at reasonable rates during Ramzan was a commendable step of the PSMA for which it would be rewarded by Allah Almighty. He added that maximum relief should be provided to the fasting people in fixing the prices of sugar during Ramzan, and the Punjab government had made effective arrangements for the supply of quality essential items to the masses at cheaper rates and atta, ghee, sugar, fruits, vegetables and other consumer items would be provided to the masses at reduced price in 325 Ramzan Bazaars in the province. Concessionary rate of atta for Ramzan has already been fixed and 20 kg atta bag will be available in Ramzan Bazaar for Rs 415 and 10 kg atta bag for Rs 210 while 20 kg atta bag will be sold in the open market for Rs 440, he mentioned, adding that a comprehensive system of monitoring of prices during Ramzan had also been devised, and a cabinet committee had been constituted which would monitor prices on daily basis. Javed A Kayani said all out cooperation would be extended to the Punjab government in the provision of sugar to the people at reasonable rates during Ramzan. He appreciated spirit of the CM regarding provision of relief to the fasting people and assured full cooperation in this regard. He added that Sugar Mills Association would provide sugar to the Punjab government in accordance with the need of the people. The delegation included Vice Chairman of Association Riaz Qadir Butt and Executive Member Ikram-ul-Haq.
