LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has paid glorious tribute to late Dr Majid Nizami on his second death anniversary today, July 26.
“Dr Nizami was a patriotic Pakistani and custodian of ideological basis of the country,” the chief minister said in a message yesterday.
Remembering the renowned journalist and former editor-in-chief of Nawa-i-Waqt Group, Shehbaz Sharif said that the services of Dr Majid Nizami for promotion of Pakistan ideology will always be remembered.
Dr Nizami rendered invaluable services for journalism, protection of Pakistan ideology, welfare of workers of Pakistan Movement and supremacy of democracy and constitution in the country, the CM added.
Shehbaz Sharif said that Dr Nizami always spoke the truth before the oppressor and strived for the stability of democracy and democratic norms in the country. Whenever undemocratic forces came to power, Dr Nizami raised his voice in favor of democracy and democratic system, he further said.
“He (Dr Majid Nizami) always believed that Pakistan could achieve a respectable place in the comity of nations without adhering to the principles and ideals of Quaid-e-Azam.
“He considered protection of geographical frontiers of Pakistan as an article of faith and declared Pakistan ideology as a guarantee to its survival and solidarity,” the CM added.
Calling Dr Majid Nizami the “ideological torchbearer for Pakistani youth”, CM Shehbaz said that the late journalist was like a kind-hearted elder for him.
Meanwhile, the Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust and the Pakistan Movement Workers Trust have jointly devised a comprehensive programme to observe the second death anniversary of late Dr Majid Nizami.
The ceremonies will commence today with the visit of the office bearers and workers of NPT and PMWT to the tomb of late Dr Nizami where they will offer prayers and lay a wreath of flowers as a mark of honour and respect.
Later, at 10:00am, a “Mehfil-i-Quran Khwani” will be held at the Aiwan-i-Karkunan-i-Tehreek-i-Pakistan with special prayers for the departed soul at 11:30am.
At 10:00am on Wednesday, July 27, a picture exhibition based on Dr Majid Nizami’s life and achievements will be held at the Aiwan-i-Karkunan-i-Tehreek-i-Pakistan, which will be inaugurated by the NPT Chairman RafiqueTarar.
After that, a special sitting will be held in the Wyne Hall at 10:30am, at which Dr Majid Nizami’s long-time associates, the Pakistan Movement workers and scholars will spotlight his national and journalistic services.
During these ceremonies an award declamation competition on the topic will be held among the school-going children at the Aiwan-i-Karkunan-i-Tehreek-i-Pakistan at 10:00am on Thursday, July 28.
At 10:00 am on Friday, July 29, an award declamation competition will be held among the college students from the prestigious educational institutions of Lahore. The purpose of these ceremonies is to acquaint the new generation with the life and achievements of late Dr Nizami, who passed away on July 26, 2014 corresponding to the 27th of Ramzan-ul-Mubarak.
