Mother poisons four kids, self to death

LAHORE - A 30-year-old frustrated nurse injected her four children to death and later committed suicide by administering poisonous injection into her vein apparently due to 'joint family system dispute, police investigators believed. The deceased woman identified as Monazza Bibi had tied knot with a man of her own choice, a police constable, killed her three daughters and a son and then committed suicide at a rented house in Behaar Colony in Liaqatabad police precincts early on Friday. Husband of the deceased, Riaz Bhatti, told the police they had been residing in small but three-storey apartment in the congested locality after their love marriage some 11 years ago. The ill-fated mother was unhappy as she was forced to reside along with her husbands five brothers and their families. She was asking her husband to relocate somewhere else, as she wanted to get rid of joint family system, local residents said. According to police sources the family had refused to absorb the ill-fated Monazza, resident of Liyari - Karachi, the very day she married Riaz. The deceased, however, were identified as Maiza, 9, Aiza, 6, Inza, 4 and Noman, 3. Police concerned was of the view, according to Riaz, his spouse administered injections with the same syringe and all the bodies were lying in the same room. Family sources said, a night before the incident, all the family members were sitting on the roof during loadshedding and had chat with each other in quite pleasant mood. They further said the whole family was surprised over the extreme step taken on the very next day. Contrary to it, according to hospital sources, Monazza was a nurse on night duty in Social Security Hospital. A police source privy to the development revealed that constable Riaz was on duty about 7:00 am when Monazza phoned him and informed about the havoc situation. I have administered injections to my children and I myself am going to commit suicide, Monazza further told to Riaz Bhatti, who later informed to the police. Inspector Abdul Rahseed, PS Liaqatabad, said Riaz rushed to home and shifted the children and his spouse to Ittifaq Hospital. All the children died during the way to hospital while the woman was shifted to General Hospital where she breathed her last about 6 pm, he added. Talking to The Nation, another nurse Razia and sister of Monazza, alleged since her marriage her five brothers-in-laws and their wives, living in the same building, often victimised Monazza of severe torture. She further said Monazza demanded a separate portion but Riaz was hesitant in leaving his family. Her in-laws were jealous from social status of Monazza and taunted her, who attempted suicide many times before this. Ultimately, she has closed the chapter of her life along with her innocent children, she added. On the other side, Shakeela, in-laws relative of Monazza, said, I am unable to understand the chief motive behind this extreme step as Monazza always loved her children. She further said the couple had also decided to live in separate portion some days back and even Monazza had started to collect her luggage in order to shift in new house, on which, the other family members had rebuked her doing so. Nabeela and Shama, sisters-in-law of Monazza, disclosed the couple had purchased a new car and were planning to have long tour of Northern Area including Sawat and Kalaam in near future. They, however, said she never fought with them. Shakeel, cousin of Monazza, however, claimed she quarrelled with him a couple of days ago but we compromised. The neighbours women also revealed Monazza was a polite and decent in manners but she felt uneasy in 'Bhatti House where sever quarrel was a common practice among the family members. The police shifted the bodies to the Jinnah Hospital Dead House and later handed them over to the heirs after posthumous reports.
