'N' leaders must avoid 'careless statements'

LAHORE - A spokesman of the Punjab Government, while lamenting the remarks made by leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-N in a press conference, has said they should avoid making irresponsible statements and must check their own track-record before levelling allegations against the present administration. According to a press release issued here on Wednesday, the spokesman said these people terminated the services of 15000 contractual employees during the first month of their tenure and paralysed the administrative machinery and did nothing except to harass the government employees and remove them from service. The spokesman further said the poor performance of the previous government could be well judged from this fact that only 22 per cent development funds were utilised during a year and these funds were only given to the members of national and provincial assemblies of N-League. The spokesman said almost no development funds were given to the members of allied parties, which was the worst example of political victimisation and it resulted in depriving the people of Punjab of basic amenities. The spokesman said the Governor Punjab had ensured utilisation of 40 per cent development funds during a short period of one month. Referring to the allegations, the spokesman said the present government did not detain even a single person during the long march, which was a proof of good governance. "Similarly, the allegation of blowing up the bridge on River Chenab is misleading and baseless and has no relevance to facts," the spokesman concluded.
