SP directed to go straight to CEMB for DNA report

LAHORE - The Lahore High Court Chief Justice on Thursday directed the SP Investigation Sheikhupura to go straight to the Centre of Excellence and Molecular Biology (CEMB) of Punjab University to get a DNA report required to solve the mystery of a girls murder. CJ Khawaja Sharif directed the SP to convey the courts message to the CEMB incharge that he must submit the DNA report before the court on April 5, the next date for hearing. Earlier, SP Syed Amin Bokhari told the court that DNA report had not been received yet. On the last date of hearing (March 3), the police had told the court the same story upon which the court adjourned the proceedings for March 25. The court has been conducting suo motu proceedings into the murder of advocate Muhammad Irshads daughter Nobeera, who was killed on December 5, 2009 by some unknown dacoits at her Sheikhupura residence while she was alone. So far, her killers cannot be traced despite the fact that police have interrogated several accused persons including neighbours on the pointation of the complainant, father of the deceased. On January 1, the Chief justice had taken suo motu notice on a news item published in an Urdu newspaper that police had failed to arrest the killers of Nobeera. FIR 1052/2009 u/s 302PPC was registered against unidentified persons in City Police Station Sheikhupura which said besides killing the girl, the dacoits had taken away cash, jewelry, prize bonds and other valuables in broad daylight. Tanvir, Sajid Ashraf, Imran and other locals were investigated on suspicion, but the police remained clueless. Muhammad Irshad said his daughter Nobeera was home alone after he left for court. At about 9am his daughter called on his cellphone, but he could not understand what she wanted to say. He rushed to the house only to found his daughter dead with torture marks on her body. It seemed some unknown person had killed his daughter, he added. On Jan 9, 2010 the Chemical Examiner Punjab in his report submitted that neither poison was detected in Viscera nor semen was detected from the swabs sent to his lab. A parcel containing material from abrasions present on the left side on neck of the victim and her clothes had been sent to the CEMB for DNA report, which could only determine the killers of the girl.
