LAHORE - WWF-Pakistan on Wednesday organised a pre-launch ceremony for Earth Hour 2015 with musician Ali Noor at Beaconhouse School System, Garden Town Campus on Wednesday.
Beaconhouse Garden Town Campus is a registered Green School of WWF-Pakistan and has the largest number of registered Green Students from Lahore.
The event was attended by more than 500 Green Students. Ali Noor led the students to pledge for a greener planet.
WWF senior manager Sania Rauf Khan shared with the students theme of this year’s Earth hour - ‘Use Your Power to Change Climate Change’. She said that Pakistan has ranked in the top three countries most affected by climate change by German Watch Institute’s Climate Risk Index for last three years.
“It is important that we fight climate change by reducing carbon emissions and becoming environmentally aware,” she said.
Ali Noor said, “Earth Hour has brought the whole world together for a common cause. People should understand the importance of environment and should take responsibility for their actions to make this world a better place to live.”
Earth Hour is being observed this year on March 28 from 8:30pm to 9:30pm in more than 172 countries including Pakistan. Qarshi Industries, PEL, Tetra Pack and K-Electric have collaborated with WWF-Pakistan for Earth Hour 2015.
Earth Hour is WWF's global environmental movement. As one of the first open-sourced climate change campaigns, Earth Hour has grown from a symbolic event in one city to the world's largest grassroots movement for the environment. In 2014, Earth Hour engaged individuals, businesses and organizations in over 7,000 cities and 162 countries and territories during the hour and beyond. In 2015, Earth Hour aims to harness the power of its millions of supporters worldwide to change climate change.
The Green School Programme is a structured environmental education and awareness campaign that engages students in events, activities and skill development workshops throughout the academic year.
