LAHORE - A writ petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking directions for the government to not issue licences to people to establish more Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations, in order to ensure smooth supply of gas to all domestic and industrial consumers across the country.
Watan Party through his counsel Barrister Zafarullah Khan filed the petition in SC Lahore Registry on Tuesday. The petitioner’s counsel submitted that domestic and industrial consumers are being deprived of gas.

The winter season is on its climax but unfortunately the gas is not being supplied to domestic consumers, he said. He further said that non-provision of gas to industrial consumers would lead the country to face financial instability and the laborers in factories, consequently would lose their jobs.
He requested the court to direct the government not issue license to people to establish CNG stations in the country, so the proper gas supply could be made a reality.

Also, the Lahore High Court on Tuesday sought reply from Election Commission of Pakistan and Faisalabad Election Tribunal on a petition seeking transfer of case from Faisalabad Election tribunal to some other election tribunal.

Previously, the court had restrained Election Tribunal from giving the final decision on a petition challenging the elections results of PP-78.
The petitioner’s counsel told the judge that she was elected as member of the Punjab Assembly from District Jhang and her opponent candidate Maulana Ahmad Ludhyanvi challenged her victory before an election tribunal.

But the petition through which the election of PP-78 was challenged contained unverified documents, he said. He said the petitioner made fake allegations and could not prove them.

The Election Tribunal cannot decide such application as per the law, the counsel argued. He prayed the court to bar the Election Tribunal from giving the final decision on a petition filed challenging his candidacy.

After hearing the petitioners’ counsel, the court sought reply from ECP and Election Tribunal within two weeks.
