Redesigning of law courses emphasised

LAHORE - A one-day conference on “Key issues and challenges in Judicial Education” concluded on Saturday with a message that redesigning of the courses on modern lines is the utmost need of the present era for dispensation of justice.
The conference stressed upon the need for opening new avenues of legal education and awarding scholarships to the excelling Judicial officers in the field of law. It also highlighted that the dignity and stature of an adjudicator in the society was very high.
Judges, registrars and the senior lawyers took part in the judicial conference. Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah of LHC was behind this unique idea of holding a national conference on the issue.
He said that restructuring the courses and research-oriented programs making use of internet, e-mail and video-link facilities was the need of the hour. He laid emphasis on priority to court management and case management courses in Academy’s curriculum, so that the judges could perform better.
He declared the training essential for every member of the District Judiciary, adding that the score cards issued by the academy would play a vital role in the transfer and promotion matters. The judge also announced Lahore Declaration for Judicial Education covering all aspects and recommendations of the conference.
For the second time in the history of country, all the judicial academies of the country, after Karachi, gathered on one platform to discuss the key matters and challenges to judicial education and to revamp the courses and curriculum of the judges.
Earlier, Deans/Director Generals of all the Judicial Academies of the country and Registrars of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir High Court and Chief Court of Gilgit-Baltistan shared their experiences about judicial education in their respective jurisdiction.
Former judges of Supreme Court as well as High Courts including Justice Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui, Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Khan and Justice Dr Munir Ahmad Mughal spoke to the participants, while foreign experts from USA and India also delivered lectures through video-link to the Judicial officers, lawyers and law students.
