Govt extending vaccination in educational institutes

LAHORE - Government is extending screening and vaccination to the entire educational institute of Punjab step by steps, and this will be followed by free vaccinations for all the students. The quacks are playing havoc with the life of the poor peoples and this will not be tolerated further. The Provincial Minister for Culture and Youth Affair Dr Tanveer Islam expressed these views while addressing the national conference titled "Role of Community in Hepatitis Prevention" held under the auspices of Pakistan Medical Society in collaboration with the Directorate General of Heath Punjab at University of Veterinary and Animal sciences auditorium. Dr Tanveer ul Islam said, "We are heading towards strict legislation to control the spread of the communicable disease especially the hepatitis in our country. It is responsibility of the people to keep their own check and balance". Director General Health Punjab Dr Aslam Chaudhry said that awareness had to be increased amongst the masses. It was only the awareness that could stop spread of this disease from the country. He said that they had already started providing free vaccination to the children in Punjab. People should make use of this opportunity to save their children from this dreadful disease. He said that they had started screening of all the peoples before surgery and even before the blood transfusion, which was offered free of cost to all the peoples. This had tremendously reduced the burden of the disease. The Vice Chancellor UVAS Prof Dr Nawaz said that this was a very important occasion that galaxy of gastroenterologist were here at the university auditorium. This would give them chance to understand the disease in a better way. He emphasized that we should spend our life in accordance with the teaching of Islam to save our self from lot of disease. Chairman Pakistan Medical Society Dr Masood Akhtar Sheikh said that hepatitis is broadly divided into two groups. One is the water borne that spread through the feco-oral route moreover through the ingestion of the contaminated water, mixing of the fecal and the drinking lines, and also use of soft drinks taken from the unhygienic sources. The second type is spread through the blood and the blood products, either directly or through the contaminated needles. He said that people should not share the needles of any sorts, and should insist on the new blades for shaving. The hepatitis of this sort can be transmitted from one person to the other sexual partners so best thing is to restrict oneself for the safe sexual relations. Women should be very care full while getting their ear pricked for the tops etc.
