Fazl out to shape MMA-like alliance

LAHORE - JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has become active to form a Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal-like alliance of religious parties.
He hinted this at a news conference after meeting the Jamaat-e-Islami chief at Mansoora here on Monday.
Fazl said that he was making efforts to initiate contacts with various religious parties and his visit to Mansoora was also a part of the purpose. He said he also met with the JUP leaders in Karachi and Islamabad and the purpose was to promote ties within religious parties. He said the western agenda was being advanced in the country and alien culture, vulgarity and obscenity were being promoted at the cost of the Islamic traditions and values. He said that Islam is the religion of friendship and peace for the entire humanity. Fazl also congratulated JI’s newly-elected Chief Sirajul Haq on assuming his office.
On the occasion, Sirajul Haq said the religious parties were a reality and could not be ignored. He said that Pakistan came into being in the name of Islam and its ultimate goal was the Islamic system. He said the religious forces wanted the country to advance on its founding ideology. He said the Constitution of the Pakistan was Islamic in character and provided solution to all the problems being faced by the masses. The JI leader said if only the Election Commission had enforced the articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution during the election process, the situation would have been totally different today.
To a quarry about Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visit to India, Sirajul Haq said the PM should truly represent the nation and take up the issues of Kashmir and water with the Indian leaders, and also meet the Hurriyat Conference leadership there.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman also said the Prime Minister’s visit to India was a formal and goodwill visit and no talks were expected on the occasion. However, he said, “We should expect good from the new leadership in India, but should not have any misgivings.”
The JUI-F delegation included Hafiz Husain Ahmed, Maulana Amjad Khan and others. JI Secretary General Liaqat Baloch, Hafiz Muhammad Idrees, Mian Muhammad Aslam, Farid Paracha and Rashid Nasim and others were also present on the occasion.
