Airline’s pilot sent to jail on judicial remand

LAHORE – An anti terrorism court today sent Shaheen Airline’s pilot captain Asmat Mahmood to jail on judicial remand.

As the hearing commenced, Sarwar Road police produce the suspect before the court and sought more physical remand as his further custody was required to complete investigation. Civil Aviation Authority’s counsel told the judge that the pilot was also involved in human trafficking and possessed fake matriculation certificate and license. However, the suspect’s counsel opposed the arguments and argued that it was technical fault which forced the pilot to do crash-landing. All the passengers were saved; therefore, there was no need to extend physical remand of the suspect.

After hearing both sides, ATC Judge Khwaja Zafar iqbal rejected the request of police and sent the accused to jail on judicial remand.

Asmat Mahmood was arrested on the charges of crash landing plane at Allama Iqbal International Airport on Nov 3. He was also accused of having liquor during his duty due to which he did crash landing of the plane.
