LAHORE - A poverty-hit labourer ended his life after killing wife in Kot Lakhpat, police said Saturday. A cop said Awami Colony resident Muhammad Asghar, 35, stabbed his wife, Aasia Bibi, 27, to death and then ended his life by hanging himself with a ceiling fan at his house late Friday.
Investigators reached crime scene on the call of neighbours. Investigators say that the couple had been facing financial problems for a couple of months. Police said the father-of-three was unable to work owing to protracted illness.
Muhammad Yasir, a 12-year-old son of the deceased, told reporters that he was compelled to quit school because of poverty. “I am working at a marriage hall for Rs100 a day,” he said busting in to tears. The boy said that they often slept without dinner. The father of the deceased said that they were unable to clear the outstanding dues, including the house rent and utility bills of last four months. He said he had no money for burial arrangements and no political leader visited the poor family. The couple was buried in a local graveyard.
