LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif has said that the whole nation should display unity to maintain peaceful atmosphere, brotherhood and religious harmony during Muharram-ul-Harram, so as to foil the nefarious designs of anti-state elements. He said that elected representatives and all other segments of the society would have to play their effective role in performance of their national obligation in this regard. He maintained that peaceful atmosphere would be ensured at all cost and for this purpose, a cabinet committee has been formulated for adopting necessary measures. The chief minister was addressing members of provincial assembly hailing from DG Khan Division at CM Secretariat here on Saturday. The meeting also reviewed in detail the implementation of various development projects initiated for public welfare at DG Khan Division. Senior Advisor Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, Provincial Minister Sardar Dost Muhammad Khan Khosa, Malik Ahmed Ali Olakh and Khawaja Ahmed Hassan were also present on the occasion. The chief minister said that the country is passing through a critical juncture and efforts are being made to isolate the country at international level. He said that Pakistan is a peaceful country and condemns extremism and militancy in and outside the country. The CM said that Pakistan had condemned Mumbai blasts and had assured India of all out cooperation in investigation of the blasts but India is resorting to exert pressure and threats. He made it clear that Pakistan is fully capable of defending its frontiers and it would retaliate if war was imposed. He said that under the current situation, keeping of a vigilant eye on suspicious elements and maintenance of law and order during Muharramul Harram is of utmost importance. He stressed upon the people of all schools of thought to ensure unity in their ranks by setting aside their petty differences. He said that effective measures have been taken by the government for maintaining peaceful atmosphere during Muharramul Harram and a cabinet committee headed by Senior Advisor to CM Sardar Zufliqar Ali Khan Khosa has also been constituted which will monitor the whole situation.
