Muslims’ voice be heard at UN; Sarwar tells US diplomat

| Terms Obama’s skipping Pakistan a diplomatic failure

LAHORE - Punjab Governor Ch Muhammad Sarwar on Tuesday told a US diplomat that voice of 1.5 billion Muslims in the world should be heard in the United Nations.
In a meeting with US Consul General in Lahore, Mr Zack Harkinrider which took place at the Governor House here, Ch Sawar said that it was a matter of grave concern for the Muslims that not a single Muslim country had its representation in the UN Security Council.
In such a situation, he added, the Muslims across the world were within their legitimate right to ask the world powers as to why their point of view was not being heard and accepted at the highest world forum. He pleaded that at least one Muslim country should be given representation in the UNSC at the time of its expansion.
Speaking in the context of recent visit of US president to India, the Punjab governor urged that US should maintain parity in its relations with India and Pakistan. This, he said, was essential to maintain balance of power in the region.
Sarwar affirmed that maintenance of world peace was directly linked to peace in the South Asian region; for which the US should play its role to strike a balance of power. He also mentioned that Pakistan was the only country in the world which had rendered maximum sacrifice in the war against terror. Now, no distinction was being made between good and bad Taliban, he said, adding that political and military leadership was also on the same page to deal with the issue.
Speaking on the occasion, the American diplomat said his country valued the efforts and sacrifices made by Pakistan to eradicate terrorism and would continue to extend its fullest cooperation in this regard. Mr Zack also appreciated the fact that both civil and military leadership in Pakistan was in unison to fight against the terrorists.
Meanwhile, addressing a function at Lahore Museum, the governor said that US President Obama’s decision to skip over Pakistan on his Indian trip was a diplomatic failure of Pakistan. He said US president should play his role to end the current state of tension between the two neighbors.
