LHC seeks reply from Pemra on appointments

LAHORE  - The Lahore High Court on Thursday directed the federal government to submit reply on a petition seeking cancellation of appointments of three members of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra).
A local NGO filed a suit through its counsel, Abid Saqi, stating that the appointments of Pervaiz Rathore, Gohar Ijaz and Israr Abbasi were based on political interference and in violation of merit.  The petitioner said that merit was totally ignored and such appointments would bring a bad name to Pemra besides adversely affecting the authority’s working.
The petitioner prayed to the court to set aside the appointments and stop the federal government from ignoring merit while making fresh appointments.
The court, after hearing the initial arguments, issued a notice to the federal government and sought reply.
