Lawyers warn of countrywide protests

LAHORE - Giving one month deadline to the Punjab government for trial and conviction of police officials involved in murder of two lawyers in Daska, the Pakistan Bar Council has warned of countrywide protests if these demands were not met.
Addressing the lawyers at Lahore High Court Bar Association here on Wednesday, PBC vice president Azam Nazeer Tarar announced that lawyers would continue their protests till the responsible for Daska killings will be brought to justice.
On Wednesday, the lawyers held partial strike and appeared in the courts. They were wearing black armbands in a show of solidarity with Daska victims. They also hoisted black flags on bar offices and staged protest demonstrations on roads, demanding the government to take the matter to its logical end.
The lawyers also set up two camps: one at GPO Chowk and another outside Aiwan-i-Adl.
At Lahore High Court Bar Association, a general house meeting was held where office bearers and senior lawyers addressed the participants and offered prayer for the deceased. LHCBA president Pir Masood Chishti broke into tears while addressing the lawyers over Daska killings.
Later on, the lawyers staged protest at GPO Chowk while the Lahore Bar Association took rally from Aiwan-i-Adl to The Mall to condemn the killings of their colleagues.
They were holding flags and chanting slogans against the government and police over their failure to protect the lives and property of the general public.
They termed the Daska incident as a test case and said that the blood of their colleagues would never go wasted. They said that they would continue their struggle for the change in the country.
