LAHORE - Disposing of several petitions against alleged arrests of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s workers in Punjab, the Lahore High Court directed the government not to take any illegal action against peaceful political workers on Thursday.
Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhary, PTI Punjab chapter president, and others had filed the petitions submitting that the government launched a crackdown on their party workers to stop them from participating in grand sit-in on November 30 at Islamabad.
They said many of the workers had been taken into custody while many of them were being harassed by police. Petitioners alleged that the police had been conducting raids on the houses of PTI workers. They asked the court to restrain the police from arresting and harassing the PTI workers.
However, a law officer on behalf of the Punjab government denied the allegations of the petitioners.
After hearing both sides, the court disposed of the petitions and stopped the government from taking any illegal action.
