YDA threatens protest against docs’ sacking



LAHORE: Giving ultimatum of 72 hours to the management of Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital for restoring the services of terminated doctors, Young Doctors Association Punjab has threatened to launch protest at teaching hospitals if demand was not fulfilled.
Addressing a press conference at protest camp outside SKCH on Monday, YDA Punjab President Dr Ajmal Ch alleged that the hospital management terminated cancer specialist in peads Dr Shazia Riaz without fulfilling legal requirements that led to stoppage of training to Postgraduate trainees. Dr Amer Bandesha, Dr Tajammal Butt and Dr Nasir Abbas were also present.
YDA Punjab office bearers alleged that Dr Shazia Riaz was terminated for raising certain issues against the liking of hospital management. They said that Dr Shazia was the only cancer specialist in peads and she had established a proper unit in the hospital.
They said that PG trainess were also terminated when they approached the hospital management with the request that the step should be withdrawn as it would affect their training. They vowed to approach Punjab Healthcare Commission and College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) against unlawful decision and rampant corruption at the hospital. –Staff Reporter
They also decided to launch protest outside and in the vicinity of SKCH and all teaching hospitals in Lahore.
