Hearing adjourned

LAHORE - Justice Umar Atta Bandial of the Lahore High Court (LHC) Monday adjourned to October 5 further hearing of the petition filed earlier by the manufacturers and sellers of firework goods against the ban imposed by the Punjab government on their business. Last day, it was informed to the court through a reply to the petition by the Secretary Information that his department had convened a meeting of firework sellers and hopefully the matter would be sorted out either way. The court on that put off further hearing to let what outcome the meeting would yield. Munir Lachi etc through the petition have aggrieved that the ban imposed on their business has rendered lakhs of people jobless to the extent of their starvation. According to the Constitution of Pakistan every citizen has a right to life and trade and they are not selling anything which is hazardous to the life of the citizens. They contend that in these days of price-hike and unemployment, they are up against drastic miseries principally for the reason they do not know any other business except this one as such, the court taking note of their plight and direct the government to lift ban on their trade. Minor dies A minor died under mysterious circumstances in Mughalpura police limits in the wee hours on Monday. Police said an eight-year-old child was found dead when his mother Salma tried to awoke him in the early morning. The bereaved father Shaukat, resident of Fateh Garh, said the child slept in healthy condition at night after his mother fed him but he died due to what was still to be investigated. The family also shifted him to a local hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead. Further investigations are underway.
