Punjab to provide quality education in Gwadar

LAHORE - Punjab government is working on a high standard educational institution in Gwadar, Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said yesterday, aiming to provide quality education to the children of Balochistan.

“Punjab government has included children of all provinces as well as Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir in its educational programmes and this step has promoted national solidarity, brotherhood and unity,” said the CM while reviewing the project of Khadim-e-Punjab Bahria Model School and College, Gwadar, during a meeting.

He directed the authorities to ensure high quality work on the project.

Provincial Minister for School Education Rana Mashhood Ahmad, Naval Commander Balochistan Coast Gwadar Commodore Akbar Naqi, provincial secretaries and other officials were present during the meeting.

Increasing pollution irks CM

Meanwhile, the CM issued instructions for reorganisation of Environment Department and restructuring of Environmental Protection Agency for controlling increasing environmental pollution.

“Environmental Protection Agency will be completely autonomous and responsible for implementation of environmental laws,” he said while addressing a meeting through video link.

“A comprehensive strategy should be adopted for overcoming environmental pollution and maintaining a clean atmosphere,” Shehbaz said and urged the Environment department to play a vigorous role in this regard.

Shehbaz expressed indignation over laxity in the setting up of proposed agency for environmental protection, failure in its timely activation and directed that EPA should be restructured for improving efficiency of the department. He said that inclusion of the experts in this sector in environmental protection agency for its capacity building is a pressing need and immediate measures should be taken for this purpose.

“Provision of a clean atmosphere to the masses is the responsibility of concerned institutions and they will have to discharge their duties efficiently,” he added.

He directed the authorities concerned to submit recommendations regarding necessary amendment in environmental laws within seven days.

Provincial minister for Environment Begum Zakiya Shahnawaz, Parliamentary Secretary Akmal Saif Chatha, chief secretary, Planning & Development chairman and other senior officials participated in the meeting through video link from Civil Secretariat.
