LAHORE - The Accountability Court Lahore on Saturday extended the physical remand of Railways former general manager Saeed Akhtar for 15 more days to carry out further investigation.
Earlier, on April 14, he had been handed over to NAB authorities on 14-day physical remand and ordered to produce him before the court on April 28. Saeed Akhtar is accused of selling scarp at throw away rates which caused an enormous loss to the public utility. He was arrested in Islamabad shortly after his extension in service for two years from the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Mr Saeed’s counsel claims his client was innocent and that the contract of railway scarp was announced by the ministry of railway and his client had nothing to do with this case.
On Saturday, after completion of 14-days physical remand, NAB produced the Railways’ ex-GM Saeed Akhter in the court and requested the court for extension in his physical remand as investigation was incomplete.
While showing resentment, the court reprimanded the NAB officials and said that Saeed Akhter is accused of committing corruption worth Rs70 million in scrap scandal but not a single proof has been provided to the court in this regard.
