SC did not disqualify PM: Imtiaz

LAHORE - PPP president Punjab, Imtiaz Safdar Warraich has claimed that punishment under Article 63 is a civil contempt, which never leads to disqualification of the prime minister.
He expressed these views while addressing a press conference at Lahore Press Club on Saturday along with party leaders of Punjab chapter.
He alleged that courts had provided protection to dictators in the past, while the verdict against Prime Minister was for following the Constitution instead of contempt of court.
Warraich said that the Prime Minister had taken the oath for the protection and preservation of the Constitution so he would never go against it.
He hoped that the Supreme Court would accept the stance of Yousaf Gilani in an appeal. He alleged that PML-N high command comprising of Nawaz Sharif and Shabaz Sharif always looked out for chances to come to power and alleged that they never follow any principle.
PPP Punjab president alleged that Sharifs always ditched their mentors and allies starting from Muhammad Khan Junejo to Farooq Leghari. Replying to a query, he claimed that Chaudry Nisar was deceiving the PML-N leadership. He maintained the PPP was not protesting against the verdict but it was only expressing solidarity with the PM.
