City receives scattered showers

LAHORE The City received scattered showers on Thursday with experts predicting partly cloudy weather and more rains during the next couple of days. Lahore received 06 mm rain. The rains and patches of clouds helped maintaining the temperature to a lower level, however, high humidity made the weather muggy, causing the Lahorites to sweat profusely. Frequent outages added to the woes of the Lahorites. Even scattered light rain added to the woes of motorists and pedestrians as the rainwater inundated on portions of roads and roadsides in several localities. Frequent traffic jams were witnessed on a number of important arteries till the evening. Several incidents of skidding motorcycles were also reported from various parts of the City. Lahore Canal, as usual, attracted a large number of people including women and children. Not only youths, but also elderly people were seen bathing in the canal water. At some places, even women were seen beating the heat by taking a dip in the mud coloured canal water. On Thursday, maximum and minimum temperature in the City was recorded 33 degree Celsius and 28.5 C respectively. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded 92 per cent which decreased to 73 per cent in the evening. According to the experts, a trough of westerly wave persists over Kashmir and adjoining areas. Seasonal low lies over north Balochistan and its trough is extending Northeast wards. Moist current from Arabian Sea is penetrating Punjab and Kashmir up to 5000 feet. Local meteorological department has forecast partly cloudy weather with chances of rain for the City during the next 24 hours. Met office has forecast fairly widespread rains with isolated heavy falls over Kashmir, North and Northeast Punjab and Khyber PK. Rains are also expected at scattered places of Northeast Balochistan and South Punjab. On Thursday, Joharabad received 85 mm rain, Noorpur Thal 54 mm, Sargodha 51 mm, Faisalabad 36 mm, Jhang 13 mm, Balakot 12 mm, Okara 08 mm, Barkhan and Mandi Bahauddin 06 mm each, Chakwal and Jhelum 04 mm each, Mangla 03 mm, Saidu Sharif, Hunza, Toba Tek Singh, Bahawalnagar and Sahiwal 02 mm each, Astore 01 mm while Skardu, Gilgit, Bunji and Sialkot received traces of rains.
