‘Direct subsidy to the poor’

LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday said that Khidmat Card programme aims is to reduce economic burden on the resource-less families. He said that direct subsidy will be given to the poorest families of the province through the programme.
While presiding over a meeting the CM said that named and identity card number of the person obtaining financial assistance will be inscribed on the cards.
The meeting reviewed pace of progress on Punjab Khidmat Card Programme. Provincial Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, Food Minister Bilal Yasin, Advisor Dr Ijaz Nabi, MPA Dr Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Chief Secretary, Secretaries of Food, Planning & Development and Information Departments, Director Food and other concerned officials attended the meeting.  Shahbaz Sharif said that Punjab Khidmat Card is another revolutionary programme under which cards would issued to financially weak families for assistance while education and health facilities would also be provided through these cards.
The CM directed concerned authorities to plan for running Punjab Khidmat Card Programme on the pattern of Educational Endowment Fund and final recommendations. Various proposals regarding Punjab Khidmat Card Programme were also reviewed in the meeting.  
In a meeting with MPs: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif separately said that PML-N government is pursuing a comprehensive public welfare programme under which national resources are being spent on the betterment of less-privileged and solid steps are being taken for bringing low income people into national mainstream.
He said that energy shortage has affected economic activities and caused huge loss to agriculture and industry. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif massive projects have been started for bringing the country out of darkness and their completion will not only revive economy but there will also be light in every house.
He expressed these views while talking to assembly members of various districts, on Friday.
The Chief Minister, said welfare and provision of basic facilities to the masses is the agenda of PML-N government. He said that funds of billions of rupees are being spent on the projects aimed at provision of facilities to the people. He reiterated that Punjab would be made an exemplary province with regard to development through hard work and honesty. He stressed upon assembly members to promote contacts with the people and spare no effort in resolving their problems. Referring to energy projects, Shahbaz Sharif said that generation of energy is our top priority.
He said that overcoming energy crisis is utmost essential for keeping wheel of industries moving, promoting trade and economic activities and creating new job opportunities.
Those assembly members who met the Chief Minister included Mansha Ullah Butt, Rana Liaqat Ali, Chaudhary Arshad Javed Warraich, Haji Imran Zafar, Ali Abbas and Chaudhary Iftikhar Hussain.
