CM reviews progress on school reforms

LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said the implementation on Punjab Schools Reforms Roadmap (PSRR) is yielding positive results.
Addressing a meeting here on Saturday after reviewing the progress of PSRR, the chief minister expressed his satisfaction over the pace of implementation on the programme. He said that attendance of teachers, students and educational facilities in schools have improved substantially.
He said the DCOs and EDOs Education of three districts will be fully encouraged for showing best performance in achieving educational targets under the Roadmap. However, the officers of concerned districts will be held responsible over unsatisfactory performance, he warned.
Shahbaz Sharif further directed no effort should be spared for achieving educational targets fixed for 2018. He said provision of resources for equipping the new generation with education is not expenditure but a useful investment for the bright future of the country.
“There will be no shortage of resources for promotion of education,” the CM promised.
Special representative of Department for International Development (DFID) UK, Sir Michael Barber gave a detailed briefing with regard to the Roadmap.
Shahbaz Sharif said that promotion of education is of paramount importance for overcoming problems like terrorism, extremism, poverty and unemployment being faced by the country. He said that education is an effective weapon for decreasing the trends of extremism and constitution of a civilized and peaceful society.
He said that in view of importance of education, Punjab government has taken most effective steps for spreading the education in every nook and corner of the province. He said that Punjab Schools Reforms Roadmap is the part of this process and effective implementation on this programme is helping in the promotion of education.
The Chief Minister reiterated that resources of billions of rupees were provided for the improvement of education sector and will be provided in future as well. He stressed the need for working as a team and making untiring efforts for achieving educational targets.
Shahbaz Sharif directed that Education Minister and Secretary Schools Education should visit those districts achieving less targets and steps should be taken for further accelerating the pace of implementation on Punjab Schools Reforms Roadmap in these districts. He said that a coordinated and effective teachers training programme is of vital importance for capacity-building of teachers and educational standard can also be improved in schools through implementation on this programme.
He said that teachers training programme can also be helpful in achieving educational targets upto 2018.The Chief Minister directed to pay full attention to the quality education in schools and added that a coordinated system with regard to teachers training should be evolved and immediately implemented.
He said that besides latest training, refresher courses should also be arranged for teachers at tehsil and district levels. He stressed the need for paying special attention to the performance management.
