LAHORE - Dust raising winds and scattered drizzle provided some respite to the people from the prevailing heat wave in plains including Lahore yesterday evening by lowering the mercury level.
After sizzling heat during the daytime, strong winds started blowing in the evening that followed by scattered drizzle. The rains and windstorm decreased the mercury level, much to the relief of heat stricken people.
Prior to windstorm and scattered rains, plains of the country including Lahore remained in the grip of heat wave with large scale power outages and water shortage adding to the woes of heat stricken people.
Sibi remained the hottest place in the country where mercury rose as high as 48 degree Celsius.
Maximum temperature in Dadu, Moenjodaro, Sukkar, Rohri and Jacobabad was recorded 47C, Shaheed Benazirabad, Larkana and Rahim Yar Khan 46C.
Maximum and minimum temperature in Lahore was recorded 42 degree Celsius and 27C respectively. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded 29 per cent. Due to the intense heat, people avoided unnecessarily coming out, reducing traffic at otherwise busy roads at noon and in the afternoon.
The Lahore Canal, as usual, attracted a large number of people including, women and children.
Not only the youth but also elderly people were seen bathing in the canal.
According to the experts, seasonal low lies over north Balochistan and adjoining area. A shallow westerly wave is still affecting upper parts of the country and likely to persist during next two days.
The meteorological department has forecast mainly hot and dry weather for most parts of the country including Lahore during the next 24 hours.
