Wardag 'opposes govt ouster

LAHORE Tehrik-e-Istiqlal President Rahmat Khan Wardag has said that the country is passing through a critical situation. He said corruption and gas and electricity load shedding have reached at peak. He said that incumbent government had failed to resolve the problems of the masses but it should not be toppled through undemocratic way at any cost. He said PML-N and Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf should adopt democratic way to criticise the government. If martial law is imposed in result of protest rallies, Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan would be responsible for this, he said. Wardag expressed these views at Aiwan-e-Waqt Forum held under the aegis of TheNation, Nawa-i-Waqt and Waqt News here on Friday. The forum was hosted by Saifullah Sipra. On the occasion, Rahmat Khan Wardag said Imran Khan should not only position his 'tanks against PML-N as it could raise impression that he had been brought to damage only PML-N. He said the country could not bear politic of protests and agitation. He said Army chief General Ashfaq Pervaiz Kayani and ISI Chief General Pasha were neutral in this situation, which was a good omen. He also urged the Army not to interfere in the political matters. Responding a query, Tehrik-e-Istiqlal president said his party had come with best manifesto, adding Air Marshal Ashghar Khan, founder of the party, was honest politician who presented the best programme for the nation. But unfortunately, he said, the people did not accept his programme. He lamented that the masses voted for corrupt politicians who always betrayed them. He said country could not get rid of this worst situation until complete change of this corrupt system. He said there was no shortage of electricity in the country and the load shedding was due to corruption malice of the people at the helm of affairs. He said that masses paid their electricity bills but the government did not pay to the IPPs due to which there was load shedding. He lauded Faisal Saleh Hayat on his arguments before the apex court that country did not need rental power projects. Referring his recent meeting with Secretary Petroleum Abdull Yousaf, Wardag said that we would generate 20,000 MW by IPPs. He said government has to pay about Rs 210 billion to the private power companies.
