Fire in PTCL office suspends phone, internet services

LAHORE - An intense fire broke out in PTCL office in Lahore Sunday morning, suspending city’s telephone and internet services.
According to Rescue 1122 officials, the fire engulfed top three floors of a multi-storey building housing Pakistan Telecommunication Company
Limited (PTCL) regional office on
Edgerton Road.
Fire fighters extinguished the flames after more than three hours of hectic efforts which burnt PTCL computers and other equipments installed in the building. The fire again broke out after some times and the fire brigades were again rushed to control it.
Sources said telephone and internet services in various areas have been suspended. According to PTLC sources, 45 thousand telephone and 25 thousand internet lines have been affected.  They said it would take about four days to restore the system.
These connections also include of the Governor and Chief Minister houses, unjab Assembly, State guest house, government departments, helplines, banks, ATM machines and NGOs.
According to initial reports, the fire was caused by short circuit.
